Royal suite class, the royal genie, and how to Royal Up!

If you are looking for a cruising experience to top all others, then Royal Caribbean‘s Royal Suite Class accommodations may be for you.

Find the right extra-spacious cabin for you and your family and consider booking or upgrading to a suite. There are loads of additional perks for a true luxury vacation.

Royal Caribbean’s Royal Suite Class program offers different levels of luxury in addition to more space.

Your Royal Suite Class: Sea, Sky, or Star

There are three levels (or classes) of suite accommodation to choose from when booking your cruise: Sea, Sky, and Star.

And within these levels of Sea, Sky, and Star, you can choose between many types of suites.

And the best and the brightest of them all is a Royal Suite Star Class, with your own cruising Genie, no less. So what does this mean?

Let’s talk about these different levels and the types of suites you can choose between.

Sea Class

Sea Class suites offer the following:

  • priority check-in
  • dinner at Coastal Kitchen (your restaurant only for suite guests) luxury pillow menu
  • branded bathroom amenities and soft bathrobes to use onboard
  • bottled water
  • espresso coffee maker and tea service in your cabin
  • access to Coastal Kitchen – the restaurant designated only for suite guests.

Coastal Kitchen offers a concept of Californian cuisine paired with Mediterranean flavors. With an exciting menu that frequently changed during your cruise, this restaurant always offers the freshest seasonal ingredients. It truly is fantastic.

Sea Class is offered with Junior suites and Junior Suites with Balconies.

Sky Class

Sky Class suites include all the perks listed above in Sea Class, plus:

  • Royal’s ‘Voom’ internet package is a complete surf and stream package that keeps you in contact with friends and family throughout your cruise. It even allows you to download and stream.
  • Concierge service
  • Exclusive Signature Activities – your concierge can book you into activities onboard without wait time or arrange backstage tours or galley tours of the ships otherwise inaccessible to other guests.
  • Access to the club lounge
  • Priority arrival and departure – if you are in a hurry to disembark and beat the crowds when your cruise ends.

Sky Class is bookable with one bedroom AquaTheater Suite, Crown Loft Suite, one bedroom Owner’s Suite, and 1 & 2 bedroom Grand Suites.

We can really recommend the AquaTheater Suites where you will have prime seating for the extraordinary aqua acrobatic shows, direct from your balcony. Plus a fantastic panoramic view from the back of the ship during your entire cruise.

Royal Suite Star Class – cruising at its indulgent best

The ultimate in being a VIP! In Royal’s Royal Suite Star class, you get everything included with Sea and Sky class, plus:

  • The Royal Genie

What is a Royal Genie?

Your Royal Genie is your butler and is unique to a Royal suite Star Class. Your assigned “Genie” takes care of all your cabin services and requirements and creates VIP experiences over the entire ship for you.

If you want a special celebration or personal event on board, they book and arrange the whole thing for you. It could mean the best seats at the theater or a unique shopping experience.

The Genie takes service to a whole new level and your luxury vacation to an all-inclusive, unforgettable experience. It is that good.

What is the Royal Up program?

We have had a lot of questions regarding the Royal Caribbean Royal Up program.

It is an upgrade program where you may get the opportunity to bid for a move to a cabin in a higher price class.

So once you have a booking, you can still look at other cabin categories. If your budget allows, decide how much more you are willing to spend on another cabin category. Then make your bid – that is, you tell Royal Caribbean how much more you are ready to pay per person for that cabin category.

Royal will let you know if your bid is successful. Then you pay the extra, and your new cabin will be allocated. If your offer is unsuccessful, you are not charged anything and will stay in your existing booked cabin.

A successful Royal Up bid means that with your new cabin, the perks of the new cabin should also be included. Note, however, that rules can change at any time, and may vary from region to region.

By this, we mean that if you are booking from the U.S., booking rules can be different than if you book from, for example, the U.K. or Australia. Always check with by calling your local Royal Caribbean support. You will find the number of their website under "Contact".

Group or family bookings and the Royal Up program

If you are a group or many family members traveling together and have a reservation with more than one cabin, there are a few things to remember if you are considering Royal Up.

They are no guarantees that all your booked cabins will be offered the opportunity to Royal Up. And even if you are, not all your bids for all cabins may be successful.

That means if you confirm a Royal Up, you may find some of your party relocated to another part of the ship. If staying close together is important, you may reconsider placing a Royal Up bid.

Give it a try if you have the extra budget and think an upgrade is worth it and you don’t mind, perhaps with cabins in different locations or decks on board.

You never know – you could end up with a great cabin in a higher category at a fraction of the price it would have cost you to book it!

How can I get my booking selected for a Royal Up bid?

We have discussed this many times in the past with Royal Caribbean. And the answer is the same each time. The selection process for getting an offer to participate in the Royal Up program is entirely random.

Whether you are a member of the Royal Caribbean loyalty program, the Crown and Anchor Society, and a seasoned cruise traveler, or if you are a first-time cruiser, it makes no difference. Watch out for an email from Royal Caribbean, or find out if your cabin and cruise are eligible for an upgrade here.

Suites and VIP status – is it right for you?

Only you know what you and your family want from a vacation. And what your budget allows.

While a suite has numerous advantages, think extra space and comfort (often a lot of extra space compared to standard cabins), priority embarkation, and member-only restaurants and lounges, to name a few.

But then there is the price tag to consider.

The hefty jump in the price from standard balcony cabins to junior suites and beyond may be worth the extra to many, but perhaps not to all.

Be sure to know what is included in the cabin category you book. Then give the cruise company a call and check the price difference if you were to upgrade to the next highest suite category. And what exactly are you getting for the extra $$?

Factor in that you may get the beverage package, wifi package, and more included in the price of a suite. You would typically pay extra for these things when booking a standard cabin. You may be surprised that a suite offers good value for money.

For many, it does. And the peace of mind that you have an all-inclusive vacation with nothing more to think about when you step on board. Now, who doesn’t love a holiday like that?
